Both are hosted character chat sites with big user-made bot catalogs and free tiers. JanitorAI is the better pick for most people. Its free model gives you roughly twice the context, the help center lists no message cap for free users, its rules ban fewer themes, and its yearly plan is cheap. You can also plug in a proxy to use other models. SpicyChat AI’s strength is scene tools: rulebooks with meters, lorebooks and director mode. Pick it if you build structured scenes and are happy to pay for a higher tier.

JanitorAI’s free JLLM model costs nothing, and the FAQ lists no message cap on the free tier. janitor+ costs $12.99 a month or $99 a year, which works out to $8.25 a month. It gives about five times more context, more models, enhanced swipes and replies about three times faster when the site is busy. Usage limits still apply.

SpicyChat AI has a free tier and three plans: Get A Taste costs $5.95 a month, True Supporter $19.95, and the top plan, I’m All In, $29.95. Prices went up on 8 September 2026. Paid plans get unlimited messages and skip the waiting line, and I’m All In adds a priority queue. The free tier’s message cap is not published.

The cheapest SpicyChat AI plan costs less than janitor+, but it keeps the same 4K context as the free tier. For long scenes you need True Supporter (8K) or I’m All In (32K), and both cost more than a year of janitor+.

Context. JanitorAI’s free model gives about 8K to 9K tokens. SpicyChat AI gives 4K on free and Get A Taste, 8K on True Supporter and 32K on I’m All In. Some of its free models support up to 32K, but your plan’s cap still applies.

Models. SpicyChat AI publishes a model table with DeepSeek, Kimi and Qwen options. JanitorAI has its own JLLM, more models on janitor+, and lets you connect OpenRouter or another API as a proxy, so you can bring a stronger model you already pay for.

Scene tools. SpicyChat AI leads here. Rulebooks track meters such as a relationship level, lorebooks add world facts when keywords come up, and director mode steers group chats. JanitorAI has personas, tags and creator scripts that add bot behaviour.

Catalog and platforms. Both have large user-made catalogs and personas. JanitorAI runs on the web, iOS and Android. SpicyChat AI runs on the web and Android only.

Privacy and trust

Neither privacy policy says whether your chats train models. Both say data is kept only as long as necessary, and SpicyChat AI’s policy is also silent on encryption.

Content rules differ. On JanitorAI, only Limitless bots may include sexual content; minors, gore, bestiality and sexual violence are banned everywhere, and avatars cannot be explicit. In the mobile app, NSFW starts switched off. SpicyChat AI requires an NSFW label on explicit bots and bans minors, non-consent, incest, step-family content and real people, which rules out themes many roleplayers expect.

Age checks are regional on both. JanitorAI uses k-ID face estimation or an ID photo for users in Australia, Brazil and the UK. SpicyChat AI sends users in 26 US states, the UK, France, Italy and Australia to a third party for a video selfie or ID check.

Trustpilot reviews are weak for both. JanitorAI users complain about bans, support and output quality; SpicyChat AI users complain about the paywall, queues and moderation.

Who should pick which

Choose JanitorAI if you want the most free roleplay with the most memory, the widest content rules of the two, or the option to plug in your own model. It is the better choice overall. Look for the Limitless tag, and add janitor+ on the yearly plan if your stories run long.

Choose SpicyChat AI if you build scenes with state, like a tracked relationship level, or want director mode in group chats. Read the community guidelines first, and plan on True Supporter or higher if you need more than 4K context.
