What is JanitorAI?

JanitorAI is a character chat site with a large catalog of bots made by its users. You pick a bot, set a persona for yourself, and chat. The free in-house model, JLLM, costs nothing and the help center lists no message cap for free users. Adult roleplay is allowed only on bots tagged Limitless, and the terms ban minors, gore, bestiality and sexual violence. Avatars cannot be explicit images. An optional janitor+ plan costs $12.99 a month, or $99 a year, which works out to $8.25 a month. It runs on the web and has iOS and Android apps.

The catalog is the main draw. Bots carry tags, so you can filter by genre and by Limited or Limitless. Personas let you keep a consistent character for yourself across chats.

Free JLLM model

The default model is free with about 8k to 9K tokens of context. That is enough for short scenes and casual chats without spending anything.

Proxies and scripts

You can connect an OpenRouter proxy or another API to use a different model, and bot creators can add scripts for extra behaviour. That makes the site a front-end for stronger models if you already pay for one.

janitor+

The subscription gives about five times more context, more models, enhanced swipes, and replies that come roughly three times faster when the site is busy. Usage limits still apply.

The catch

About 9K tokens of free context means the bot forgets older parts of a long scene. The privacy policy does not say whether your chats are used to train models; it only says data is kept as long as necessary. In the mobile app, NSFW starts switched off. Age checks with k-ID face estimation or ID apply only to users in Australia, Brazil and the UK. Trustpilot reviewers complain about bans, support and output quality.

Final verdict

JanitorAI is the easy place to start for free character roleplay. The catalog is big, the free tier has no published cap, and janitor+ is cheap if you want more memory. Keep chats you care about short, or plan on a proxy or janitor+ for long stories. Do not share anything private, since the policy is vague on training.
