What is Chub AI?

Chub AI is a character chat site built around public character cards and lorebooks. You can browse cards other people made, import your own, and chat with them on Chub’s in-house models or on a model you bring yourself. Its terms put few limits on characters or chats: illegal content and sexualized minors are out, the rest is open, and Chub describes its Mars models as having no content filter. You can use it free with your own API key or a local model. The paid plan is $20 a month, paid in crypto, and gives one user unlimited messages on all of Chub’s own models.

In-house models with long context

The subscription covers every in-house LLM, including Soji 1.6T with a 60K context window. That is a large memory for a hosted chat site and helps long scenes stay on track without manual summaries.

Bring your own backend

The API connections docs list OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter and local models. If you already pay for an API or run a model at home, Chub works as a free front-end with a big card library. Chub says API inputs sent outside its own UI are not logged.

Lorebooks and chat trees

Lorebooks fire entries on keywords, so world details show up only when they matter. Chub also lists chat trees among its tools.

Stages add-ons

Chub also offers Stages add-ons. The sources name them but do not describe what each one does.

The catch

Paying is awkward: the subscription accepts crypto only, which rules it out for many people. The free path is either a one-time batch of trial credits good for a few dozen messages, or your own API key, which costs money elsewhere. The terms require 18+, but no verification method is published. A third-party report says the site is blocked for Australian users. Trustpilot has too few reviews to show a trend.
