Civitai Red vs Promptchan: Which NSFW Image Tool to Use?

The short version

Civitai Red and Promptchan both make NSFW images in a browser, but they suit different people. Civitai Red is a huge community library of checkpoints and LoRAs with a cheap generator paid in Buzz. Promptchan is a simple app with presets, text-based edits and a private mode. For most people Promptchan is the better choice. It is easy to start, its terms say who owns your images, and its user reviews are strong. Civitai Red is the pick if you need a specific community LoRA or want the lowest cost per image, and you can live with vague terms.

Price

Civitai Red is paid in Buzz, a site currency. Third-party sources put Buzz packs at about 1,000 Buzz per dollar and an SDXL image at about 4 to 6 Buzz, so roughly half a cent. Browsing is free, and you can earn Buzz through site activity. Payment options on Red are limited, and Yellow Memberships ended there in September 2026 (third-party).

Promptchan’s free plan hands out Gems every day. Paid plans start with Plus at $14.99 a month for 100 Gems; Premium is $23.99 for 400 Gems, and Pro is $33.99 for 800 Gems plus unlimited casual generations. Promptchan does not publish how many Gems an image costs, so you cannot work out the real price per image up front.

On raw cost, Civitai Red is very hard to beat. Promptchan gives you a fixed monthly bill and a free daily allowance.

Features

Models. Civitai Red hosts a large catalog of community checkpoints and LoRAs, and its generator lists Flux and SDXL families (third-party). Promptchan covers realistic, anime, fantasy and illustration styles with models based on refined open-source models.

Consistent characters. On Civitai Red you use a community character LoRA or train one on site with Buzz, which keeps a face steady across a set. On Promptchan, Tweak keeps a character’s look while you change details, and Pro adds an AI character feature.

Editing. Promptchan’s Tweak changes outfit, background, pose or lighting from a text request, with no masks. Pose options grow with your plan, and Pro adds 4K images and video. Inpainting and upscaling are not listed. Civitai Red’s editing tools are not published in the sources.

Ease and access. Both run in a browser with no install. Promptchan has presets, a free start and an API. Civitai Red’s model choice is wide but can overwhelm a newcomer, and one account works on both civitai.com and civitai.red.

Privacy and trust

Promptchan’s terms say the images you make are yours. Switch on private mode and the site takes no rights at all; leave it in public mode and you grant it a broad license. Data is kept as long as necessary and can be erased on request, but the policy does not say whether prompts train models. Age is a self-declaration in the terms, with no check described. The content policy bans child sexual content, minor-themed content, deepfakes, bestiality and graphic gore. Trustpilot reviews are mostly positive and praise ease of use, with some complaints about bugs and complex prompts.

Civitai Red’s privacy and ownership terms are not published in the sources, and official pages blocked automated access, so most details come from third parties. Mature content needs an account and an 18+ confirmation. Real-person likeness models and photoreal minors are banned. The UK is blocked. Trustpilot reviews are poor, with complaints about bans, lost Buzz and support.

Who should pick which

Choose Promptchan if you want to make images today without learning models, you like editing by typing a request, or you care about owning your output. It is the better choice overall. Turn on private mode before you generate, and watch your Gem balance in the first month.

Choose Civitai Red if you need a particular community LoRA, want to train your own, or make many images and want the lowest cost per image. Buy small Buzz packs, keep copies of your work, and check the live site before you spend.
